Fake news! False teachers, liars, Scams and traps.
Beware!!
WOLVES IN SHEEPSKIN!!

Dear friends and supporters of St. Barnabas Orphanage & School,

As the director of our Orthodox Mission in Kenya and a “father” to over 200 orphaned and vulnerable children at St. Barnabas, I am forever grateful for your prayers, your love, compassion, and generosity in support of our humble mission.

However, I have been increasingly aware that my position and my connections with so many friends and supporters of St. Barnabas is being abused by not-so-honest individuals to take advantage of your kind-hearted generosity and willingness to help the needy. So I felt compelled to write this message of warning to you and ask you to exercise prudence and caution when dealing with strangers online, especially those asking for money.

It has been brought to my attention that a lot of my friends on Facebook are receiving friend requests from Facebook profiles in Kenya, Nigeria, or other African countries, who claim to be Orthodox priests, or other clergy or pastors, who may also claim to be in charge of orphanages, schools, or run other non-profit projects for feeding and educating children in their communities.

Fake news! False teachers, liars, Scams and traps.Beware!!WOLVES IN SHEEPSKIN!!

Some of those people may also befriend me on Facebook and then use that connection as a certain credibility proof. My loyal Facebook friends and followers are then targeted with private messages soliciting for donations and monetary support of these people and their alleged organizations.

I am even aware of several instances when people would use my own name and the name of St. Barnabas Orphanage & School to contact lots of people and ask for donations on behalf of St. Barnabas or myself.

I would like to officially let you know that such people are misrepresenting myself and jeopardizing my mission. Any official request for donations on my behalf will have to come from myself (Abbah JM Kariuki) directly, or from the official St. Barnabas Orphanage & School Facebook page, and the donation link will have to take you to the official St. Barnabas Orphanage & School website, https://orthodoxmissionkenya.org/get-involved/

Anything other than that is either an outright scam or a very unethical attempt of abusing your kindness just because you are my friend and have a “proven record” of spending your money on donations.

If anyone would like to help us spread the word and encourage their friends to support the St. Barnabas Orphanage & School, I ask you to please share our official donations link above and not any other link or donation venue. It is very easy for honest and good-hearted people to fall prey to crooks and scammers out there.

Be safe, “be therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.” (Matthew 10:16)
God bless you!

Fr. Methodius JM Kariuki,
Director of St. Barnabas Orphanage & School
